Layla McLean, JD

Buckley Law

I was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii. I moved to Oregon in high school, and soon thereafter graduated from Portland State University School of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Global Marketing, and then with a Post-Baccalaureate in Business Advertising the year after, all while working full time. I then earned my Juris Doctorate law degree, and Dispute Resolution Certificates in Mediation and Arbitration from Willamette University College of Law. I also attended the East China University College of Politics and Law in Shanghai, China, where I studied  Chinese business law. During law school, I interned at The Consul Group, before working with the transactional and litigation team in sports and business law, after passing the bar exam. I went on to concentrate in large business transactions, elder law, trusts and estate planning and administration, in Salem, Oregon, before finding my permanent home at Buckley Law, in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

As part of the Business and Estate Planning Team at Buckley Law, my practice is focused on estate planning and administration for taxable and non-taxable estates, business law and real estate transactions. When it comes to estate and succession planning, my goal is to bring a collaborative approach in the personal and financial goals of my clients. My knowledge on a range of business and real estate matters provides my clients with asset protection strategies to secure the financial future for them and their loved ones. My experience has taught me how to clearly communicate strategies that enable my clients to maximize tax benefits and retain control over the use of their assets during life, and after death, while also providing tax advantageous ways to contribute to charitable organizations and their local communities. This enables my clients to thoughtfully pass on their values, not just assets and property.

In addition to providing my clients with legal counsel, I am also a mentor, a member of various marketing and personal development groups for women, estate planners, business attorneys, and minorities. I volunteer with many charitable organizations whose values align with mine, both professionally and personally, and am always looking for opportunities to increase and foster my contribution to my local community. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, soaking up the sun, playing on the lake, wine tasting, surfing, and snowboarding.
